Top April Fool’s Beers

Culture

Ahh, April Fool’s day – the perfect day for harmless pranks on friends and significant others, just to keep them in line, of course! Though we all wish we could be as clever as Jim and Pam, we might have to settle for pranks that are a little less elaborate.

Thankfully, various brewing companies don’t have this philosophy, and do everything they can to provide their fans with jarring concoctions to really keep their taste buds alive! If you’re looking for some great brews with truly surprising ingredients, you’ve come to the right place. Check out this list of past April Fool’s day pranks by renowned breweries, who produce otherwise superb beers, for a chance to shock your tongue and tickle your sense of humor.

  1. Stone Cr(He)am Ale

Over the years, Stone Brewing Co. has led a number of April Fool’s campaigns, delighting in pranks that poke fun at “the parts of the industry [they] consider less than stellar.” Their good-natured fun ranged from making light of ridiculous beer retailing to the various diet fads that have swept the nation in recent years, but their helium-infused beer of 2014 – Stone Stochasticity Project Cr(He)am Ale with Helium – took the cake. Who wouldn’t love to have a voice-modifying beer that not only gets you drunk, but also makes you sound like a talking chipmunk?

  1. Lavender-Pickle Stout

Who doesn’t love the vinegary, acidic flavors of a pickle with their lavender, oatmeal stout? Thomas Hooker Brewing Co. really hit the nail on the head with this uniquely crafted Lavender-Pickle Stout! This delicious brew will not only comfort you on a chilly winter day, but will also make you wish you had an accompanying sandwich! Located in Connecticut and with a national reputation, Thomas Hooker Brewing Co. produces superior beers, and with one taste of its Lavender-Pickle Stout, you will realize the genius potion of creamy inebriation and briny sensations.

  1. Gesundheit

Beginning as a dream between co-founders, John Cochran and Spike Buckowski, Terrapin Beer Co. has been contributing its unique craft beers to the industry since 2002. Its Gesundheit, a hefeweizen brewed with Georgian Pollen, is really one of a kind, as the locally-sourced pollen intermingles with the hops to create “the experience of a pollen-filled morning to your palate.” Additionally, each 6-pack of Gesundheit doubles as a tissue caddie so you can decorate while you sneeze.

  1. Alfalfa Tractor IPA

With its genesis in Head Brewer and co-owner, Tom Schmidlin’s garage home brewery, Postdoc Brewing has come a long way in creating a variety of ales, porters, stouts, and IPAs, all with their own distinctively rich flavors and staggering potencies. For those who love creamy IPAs, you won’t want to miss Postdoc Brewing’s Alfalfa Tractor IPA: so creamy, you’ll forget you’re not just drinking a milkshake!

  1. Ramen Lager

Noodles and beer, together at last! Have you ever been starving and craving a crisp lager simultaneously? Now, you don’t have to separate the two! With this savory, boozed up blend from Angel City Brewery, you can carbo-load while getting plastered. Proud to “rough things up a bit and work beneath the shiny surface,” Angel City Brewery went all out with this creative solution to the tedious problem of determining what comes first: food or brew?
